Intellectual Property Policy.
FAACCE exists to present African creativity with the dignity it is owed. That begins with an unambiguous position on ownership, attribution and the protection of cultural heritage.
Effective 2026
Creators retain ownership
Every creator presented on FAACCE retains full ownership of the copyright, moral rights and reproduction rights in their creative work. Publication on the platform does not transfer ownership. FAACCE holds only a limited, revocable licence — granted under a separate written agreement — to present, contextualise and, where applicable, transact the work on the creator's behalf.
Respect for artist rights
FAACCE recognises the internationally accepted rights of authors and artists, including the right to attribution, the right to the integrity of the work, and the right to fair economic participation in any commercial use. Every listing preserves attribution to the creator, their country of origin and — where relevant — the community or tradition from which the work draws.
Cultural heritage & community works
Certain forms — sacred objects, ceremonial regalia, community-owned motifs, traditional knowledge and heritage techniques — are not the property of any single individual. FAACCE will not present, reproduce or transact such works without documented consent from the custodial community and, where required, the relevant cultural authority.
Unauthorised copying is prohibited
Images, texts, videos, catalogue entries and curatorial notes on this platform are protected by copyright. They may not be copied, scraped, redistributed, re-uploaded, used to train models or reproduced commercially without prior written permission from FAACCE and — where the underlying work is involved — from the creator.
Reporting infringement
If you believe your work, or a work belonging to your community, has been used on FAACCE without proper authorisation, write to ip@faacce.org with a description of the work, your relationship to it, and any evidence of ownership or custodianship. FAACCE will review, respond, and where the claim is substantiated, remove or correct the listing.
Third-party rights
FAACCE expects every submitting creator to warrant that their submission is original, that they hold the rights they claim, and that no third-party permission has been overlooked. Creators indemnify FAACCE against claims arising from a breach of this warranty.
