Story behind the work
Katjavivi worked alongside Himba women in the Kaokoland to produce this series — using otjize, the ochre-and-butterfat pigment women prepare daily, as both material and portrait. Consent, credit and revenue-share are written into every panel.
Five hand-woven wool panels dyed with authentic otjize, framed in Namibian mopane wood.
